The Committee on Education, Culture and Heritage of the Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce has submitted a proposal to the Minister of State (Multiculturalism), Hon. Raymond Chan, P.C., M.P. entitled “Acknowledgement, Commemoration, and Reconciliation: A Proposal to Address the Internment of Croats in Canada During the Great War”.

This proposal was in response to the commitment announced in the 2005 Federal Budget which provides funding to acknowledge, commemorate, and educate Canadians about the tragic historical experiences of ethno-cultural communities affected by wartime measures and immigration restrictions.

Among others, this addresses the internment of Croatian Canadians during the First World War in federal government established camps, such as Castle Mountain, Otter, Edgewood, Jasper, Mara Lake, Morrissey and Kapuskasing.
