Friday, September 19, was a fine day for the 2008 “Taste of Croatia” Golf Tournament!

Once again golfers from the Croatian and Canadian business community converged upon Glen Eagle Golf Club in record numbers this year and they didn’t leave until they got their fill of traditional Croatian cuisine.

The Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce would like to thank CIBC Wealth Management and Victor Dodig for being the Title Sponsor for the event. As well, the generous sponsorship of welcome bags full of Croatian products by Eko Altic of Eurotrade Import/Export ensured that participants would enjoy the “Taste of Croatia” experience long after the tournament was over. On the course itself, golfers were able to sample items such as Napolitanke with a Croatian expresso, Gavrilovic salami, Ozujsko beer, Grgich Hills and Zhlatina wine, Adriatic sardines, and Pelinkovac stomach bitters with figs.

As the golfers exited the course for some pre-dinner cocktails, they were treated to the sounds of Croatia by members of  the Croatian Parish Folklore Group “Sljeme” from Mississauga, Ontario.  Guests enjoyed a wonderful dinner of diverse Croatian cuisine thanks to Luka Ursa and his exceptional staff, and the farewell gift consisted of a box of Bajadera chocolates and wine from the Island of Krk. The Chamber expresses its gratitude to the Croatian National Tourist Board for providing fabulous publications such as Croatia: the Mediterranean As it Once Was, Croatia: Homeland of Marco Polo, and Croatia: Castles With a View which will most certainly encourage participants to visit the beautiful homeland. As well, the Chamber thanks Dalmi Resorts International and Lucky Bobeta for its sponsorship of the Lunch for the event. Dalmi provided a wonderful package of its new real estate development for those considering a regular vacation property along the Adriatic coast.
